When deciding to get into Tarot, it can be pretty intimidating on which deck to choose. There are so many! Different stores sell different decks. You can go into a metaphysical store or a store like Barnes and Nobles. I have even found some antique decks in antique stores! There are also many different artists that have decks out that you can find online on different personal sites, as well as on Amazon. There are many choices so it can be overwhelming to decide.
First things first: Tarot and collecting different decks is addicting. You don’t have to have only one deck. I have two as of writing this, and I plan on getting more eventually. I have a mentor that has more. There is not only the different Tarot decks, but also Oracle decks that can be used as well.
But how do you choose?
Look at a bunch of different decks. See which ones call to you. You will have a sense if they are right for you. The deck that is meant for you will have the aesthetic that suits you. I looked at many decks in store, but ended up finding my decks online. The one I really wanted was out of stock so I went to Amazon and looked. I searched for a while until I found a deck that just seemed to fit my aesthetic. It is a dark deck that is fairly simplistic in its artwork. I felt that it was the right deck for me. I ordered it, and it has worked out great for me.
For the next few weeks after ordering the deck off of Amazon, I kept getting ads on my social media from the deck I had originally wanted. It finally became available for preorder, so I took it as a sign that I should get this deck as well. This deck by Eretherial is absolutely stunning and fits my aesthetic to a T. I love and use both of my decks. Sometimes just to double check the other, sometimes its just the feel. My Eretherial Shadow Work deck seems to be better suited for me to do shadow work than divination so I mainly use it for that and use my other deck for divination.

If you look at a bunch of different decks and one just keeps popping into your head, that deck is probably meant for you. You may get lucky and know immediately, or it might take some time. This is all ok!
It is my opinion that Tarot decks are a tool. They don’t have inherent magick in them, though they can be impregnated with energy and intention. Whenever you get a deck, you need to cleanse the deck using sage or a purifying incense. This applies to any tools you intend to use for magick. (believe me, I found this out the hard way!) It is then good practice to sit with your cards and hold them. Set the intention for these cards to be filled with your good energy and visualize and feel that energy go into the cards. This helps to ensure that there wont be any negative energy giving you bad readings or guiding you in a wrong direction.
Finally, Tarot has a high learning curve. There are books that make it a bit easier. The only way to really learn though is to do. Get a book or two, but work on doing readings and getting the feel for what the guides are telling you, as well as the meaning of the cards so you can begin to hone your intuition.
Hang in there, you got this!
